What is Short-Term Disability Insurance?

A type of coverage that replaces a portion of your income if injury or illness prevents you from working for a short period of time. It provides financial security for you and any loved ones who may depend on your ability to earn a paycheck. You may also hear disability insurance referred to as disability income insurance or income protection.

 

What is Long-Term Disability Insurance?

A type of coverage that replaces a portion of your income if injury or illness prevents you from working for a long period of time, up to Social Security Normal Retirement Age. It provides financial security for you and any loved ones who may depend on your ability to earn a paycheck. You may also hear disability insurance referred to as disability income insurance or income protection.

 

Plan rules:

  • Eligibility: Eligible full-time Employees working 20 or more hours per week

  • Coverage through Mutual of Omaha

  • Employee must be actively at work on the effective date

  • No health questions - Every Year!

  • Short-Term Disability benefits are paid in addition to sick leave and Paid Paternal Leave. Must use in conjunction.

  • Buford City Schools provides all eligible employees with Long-Term Disability (LTD) coverage at no cost to you. Automatically enrolled and follows eligibility as a new hire.
